E-Rose FiberTech Industries (Ningbo), Inc.

E-Rose FiberTech Industries (Ningbo), Inc. is specialized in supplying all kinds of bamboo fiber textile and dress, including bamboo fiber all towels, fabric, beddings, socks, infant clothing and so on.
Our bamboo fiber is 100% made from natural bamboo that grows in non-polluted region in Sichuan Province, China where giant panda live.
Fox News 2/14/08: "Fabric made from bamboo has a silky texture, environmentalists say. According to the National Geographic Green Guide, bamboo is an "a priori" eco-friendly material because it's naturally pest-resistant, requires little water, is amazingly regenerative and known to grow a foot a day. Bamboo also has a much lighter environmental impact than pesticide-laden conventional cotton and petroleum-derived nylon and polyester synthetics. According to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), conventional cotton consumes more water than any other agricultural commodity. Nitrogen-heavy fertilizer runoff from cotton fields feeds oceanic "dead zones" that deprive water of oxygen and kill fish. Seven of the top 15 pesticides used on U.S. cotton crops are deemed by the EPA to be potential or known human carcinogens. Industrial production of synthetic fibers releases lung-damaging pollutants such as nitrogen and sulfur oxides, particulates, carbon monoxide and heavy metals into the air. Manufacturing of most fabrics also releases climate-warming carbon dioxide into the air. Not so with bamboo."
Nowadays, manufacturers are turning bamboo into bamboo pulp, yarn, filament, fiber, further, into sumptuous towels, T-shirts, skirts, pants, socks, bathrobes, baby clothes, and even sheets and blankets. It seems more and more people enjoy the life given by bamboo fiber instead of cotton. To do something good for the environment is one important reason many people choose bamboo fiber products.
We will easily grasp what you need. Excellent bamboo fiber products will be introduced to you, which will help you to develop fleetly in the rising market. Cooperating with us is your wise choice.
We’d love to hear your opinions. Please check back often for new products! Your aspiring support is so appreciated.

Bamboo material and Terrestrial envirnment

Bamboo is no doubt 21st century material.

1. Natural material not to destroy environment. (An attraction of material)

Bamboo grows up for three years because of strong growing power. Certainly, it is neither spray an agricultural chemical like cotton nor danger of flood damage by a bare hill of mountains and forests like felling tree. It is no doubt natural material not to destroy Terrestrial environment.

2. The material not to be exhausted eternally.

Bamboo is a plant to be raised mainly in the center of Asia widely. It is a strong survival power and stable less influencing output by unseasonable weather.
And it isn’t taken hands to grow like cotton and silk. Therefore, it is big it is very attractive to spread because it is theoretically hidden potential to reduce cost in the future.

3. Bamboo fiber is the new material ( an attraction of market)

In Japan, bamboo as it is, blended in Japanese life as familiar material from old times and was made use of life such as wrapping a rice ball to take advantage of antibacterial character, making splendid bamboo ware to take advantage of supple texture, hard and cleanliness bamboo has. It has been developed superiority bamboo has in recent years as a fiber and it is the new material to spread in the future. As a material, cotton and silk have each strength and products to make use of that special quality became established. In the same way, we are sure it will become established in the life of the people to provide products made the most of the strength of bamboo from now on.

4. Attachment to 100% of bamboo ( an attraction turning back the earth)

We have a policy to make use of eco-friendly feature bamboo has and good thing of nature has. Therefore, we do not ornament like embroidery at all and we pursue 100% of bamboo fiber not to use cotton for the basic cloth. In addition, color is based plain because of a primary color of bamboo and chemical dyestuffs are not used as much as possible.
In the long run, after the role as a product will end, it returns to the earth by burying it in the ground.

Antibacterial Qualities of Bamboo Explained

Bamboo is a very special kind of plant, not only because it's the strongest and fastest growing plant on earth but also because of the exceptional natural antibacterial qualities of bamboo. It's these antibacterial qualities that have helped bamboo become so incredibly successful in the wild. Because it's developed an amazing barrier against bacteria, almost all types of bacterial pests that try to grow on the plant are killed on contact. What's really astounding, though, is the fact that this particular quality isn't destroyed during the process of turning bamboo culms into fabrics. In fact, a study by the CTITC (China Textile Industry Testing Centre) showed that after introducing bacteria to a sample of bamboo fabric a 99.8 reduction in bacteria occurred over a 24-hour period. Another study by The Japan Textile Inspection Association showed that bamboo fabric could eliminate over 70 of introduced bacteria over a 24-hour period even after 50 industrial wash cycles.Bamboo fibre made into socks can stop foot odour and prevent athletes' foot. Operating masks and gowns have been produced to help prevent cross infection in sterile environments. Bamboo fabric will also resist yeast, mould and fungus cultivation. No other fabric has this quality so where your cotton shirts will eventually show signs of yellowing in the pits (and no matter how much deodorant we use, we all sweat!), the antibacterial matter will kill the bacteria in sweat thus ensuring that your shirts retain a clean, fresh appearance. The natural antibacterial qualities of bamboo will also help naturally eliminate odours.

Bamboo fiber has lots of advantages

Compared with other textiles, bamboo fiber has the following advantages:
Natural anti-bacteria
It's a common fact that bamboo can thrive naturally without using any pesticide. It is seldom eaten by pests or infected by pathogen. Why? Scientists found that bamboo owns a unique anti-bacteria and bacteriostasis bio-agent named "bamboo kun". This substance combined with bamboo cellulose molecular tightly all along during the process of being produced into bamboo fiber.
Bamboo fiber has particular and natural functions of anti-bacteria and deodorization It is validated by Japan Textile Inspection Association that, even after fifty times of washing, bamboo fiber fabric still possesses excellent function of anti-bacteria. Its test result shows over 70% death rate after bacteria being incubated on bamboo fiber fabric.
Bamboo fiber's natural anti-bacteria function differs greatly from that of chemical anti-microbial. The later often tend to cause skin allergy when added to apparel.

Green & Biodegradable
As a regenerated cellulose fiber, bamboo fiber was 100% made from bamboo through high-tech process. The raw material bamboo is well-selected from non-polluted region in Yunnan and Sichuan Province, China. They are all 3-4 year old new bamboo, of good character and ideal temper. The whole distilling and producing process in our plant is green process without any pollution. Our company manufactures bamboo fiber strictly according to ISO9000 and ISO 14000. It produces natural and eco-friendly fiber without any chemical additive.
What's more, bamboo fiber is biodegradable textile material. As a natural cellulose fiber, It can be 100% biodegraded in soil by microorganism and sunshine. The decomposition process doesn't cause any pollution environment. "Bamboo fiber comes from nature, and completely returns to nature in the end"
Bamboo fiber is praised as "the natural, green, and eco-friendly new-type textile material of 21st century".

Breathable and Cool
Bamboo fiber: gives your skin a chance to breath free?
What's notable of bamboo fiber is its unusual breathability and coolness. Because the cross-section of the bamboo fiber is filled with various micro-gaps and micro-holes, it has much better moisture absorption and ventilation. With this unparalleled micro-structure, bamboo fiber apparel can absorb and evaporate humans sweat in a split second. Just like breathing, such garments make people feel extremely cool and comfortable in the hot summer. It is never sticking to skin even in hot summer. According to authoritative testing figures, apparels made from bamboo fibers are 1-2 degrees lower than normal apparels in hot summer. Apparel made from bamboo fiber is crowned as Air Conditioning Dress.

Patented technology of bamboo fiber
Bamboo fiber fabric production flow: bamboo - thick pulp - fine pulp - bamboo fiber - bamboo yarn - fabric.
Bamboo Fiber is a kind of regenerated cellulose fiber, which is produced from raw materials of bamboo pulp by our sole patented technology. Firstly, bamboo pulp is refined from bamboo through a process of hydrolysis-alkalization and multi-phase bleaching. We then process Bamboo pulp into bamboo fiber. Repeated test has proved It has a strong durability, stability and tenacity. And the thinness and whiteness degree of bamboo fiber is similar to classic viscose.
Further more it owns high abrasion-proof capacity. Bamboo fiber spins nicely. This fiber is a natural cellulose fiber, can achieve natural degradation in the soil, and it won't cause any pollution to the environment. Bamboo can be spun purely or blended with other materials such as cotton, hemp, silk, Lyocell (Tencel)), Modal, cotton chemical fiber and so no.
After hi-tech disposal, bamboo fiber is thinner than hair. It has a round and smooth surface. Thus it has no stimulation against human skin.

Coordinator Liz Foster says it is the first time in a while that the wool industry has made attempts to compete with other fibres when it comes to fashion.Ms Foster says the wool mixes have been creating plenty of interest. "We've got wool and bamboo, wool and soybean, wool and silk, wool and acetate, wool and lycra, wool and linen and silk all mixed together," she said. "I guess it's the first time for many, many, many years that we've actually seen something new in the wool industry. "They seem to have not spent their money keeping up-to-date with other fibres."

From www.wisegeek.com Bamboo fabric is a natural textile made from the pulp of the bamboo grass. Bamboo fabric has been growing in popularity because it has many unique properties and is more sustainable than most textile fibers. Bamboo fabric is light and strong, has excellent wicking properties, and is to some extent antibacterial. The use of bamboo fiber for clothing was a 20th century development, pioneered by several Chinese corporations. Bamboo fiber resembles cotton in its unspun form, a puffball of light, airy fibers. Many companies use extensive bleaching processes to turn bamboo fiber white, although companies producing organic bamboo fabric leave the bamboo fiber unbleached. To make bamboo fiber, bamboo is heavily pulped until it separates into thin component threads of fiber, which can be spun and dyed for weaving into cloth. Bamboo fabric is very soft and can be worn directly next to the skin. Many people who experience allergic reactions to other natural fibers, such as wool or hemp, do not complain of this issue with bamboo. The fiber is naturally smooth and round without chemical treatment, meaning that there are no sharp spurs to irritate the skin. Bamboo fabric is favored by companies trying to use sustainable textiles, because the bamboo plant is very quick growing and does not usually require the use of pesticides and herbicides to thrive. As a result, plantations can easily be kept organic and replanted yearly to replenish stocks. The process of making unbleached bamboo fiber is very light on chemicals that could potentially harm the environment. In textile form, bamboo retains many of the properties it has as a plant. Bamboo is highly water absorbent, able to take up three times its weight in water. In bamboo fabric, this translates to an excellent wicking ability that will pull moisture away from the skin so that it can evaporate. For this reason, clothing made of bamboo fiber is often worn next to the skin. Bamboo also has many antibacterial qualities, which bamboo fabric is apparently able to retain, even through multiple washings. This helps to reduce bacteria that thrive on clothing and cause unpleasant odors. It can also kill odor causing bacteria that live on human skin, making the wearer and his or her clothing smell more sweet. In addition, bamboo fabric has insulating properties and will keep the wearer cooler in summer and warmer in winter. The versatility of bamboo fabric makes it an excellent choice for clothing designers exploring alternative textiles, and in addition, the fabric is able to take bright dye colors well, drape smoothly, and star in a variety of roles from knit shirts to woven skirts.

Mar 13, 2008 Author: Jenn Breckenridge | Filed under: Eco at Large Labeled “the new silk” by some for its incredibly soft texture, bamboo fabric is the center of a great debate over whether the fabric is truly eco-friendly or not. Though it is lauded by many for growing without pesticides at an average rate of 12 inches a day, eco fashion fans are concerned by the harsh chemicals it takes to break down this hardy miracle plant. As more stunning bamboo designs hit the runways, Greenloop thought it was high time to get some answers to this controversy and what we ended up with was a lot more questions.Industry insider Bruce Dear, owner of Pure Bamboo, was featured recently on White Apricot explaining how his particular company deals with this process. Some companies, such as ours, produce bamboo fiber via what’s called an advanced “closed loop” solvent spinning process, which has minimal impact on the environment and an economical use of energy and water. The solvent is continually recycled during the production process. So, production plant emissions into the air from smokestacks and from waste water are significantly lower in comparison to many other man-made fiber operations. The solvent to digest the bamboo pulp can be toxic, but utilizing the closed loop process, this solvent is carefully reused and not thrown into local water systems. It’s also important to note that products made from bamboo can be recycled, incinerated or digested in sewage. The fiber will usually degrade completely in just eight days in waste treatment plants.Thorough investigations by the folks at the Organic Clothing blog yielded an opposing viewpoint…Bamboo clothing marketers have found a variety of ways to put the most eco-friendly and sustainable face on the manufacturing of bamboo fabric. The dominant manufacturing process of hydrolysis alkalization and multi-phase bleaching is generally referred to as a rather benign process utilizing caustic soda and bleach. The chemicals used are known to create a variety of health problems and neural disorders which can be hazardous to the health of fiber manufacturing workers. If the manufacturing facility lacks adequate pollution control systems – all too common in developing countries where regulations and enforcement are nearly non-existent – then these toxic chemicals can escape into the atmosphere through air vents and smokestacks and into waterways through inadequately treated waste water disposal systems.Eco news reporter Victoria Everman also expressed concerns about the fabric at GreenLivingOnline…Seeing bamboo as a “greener” substitute for silk, many designers are clamoring to use it in their collection, including couture and everyday brands. This high demand has forced Chinese manufacturers to begin clearing out natural forests in order to plant more fast-growing bamboo. On top of this, many cultivators are starting to use fertilizers that wouldn’t meet U.S. organic standards in order to increase the yield of their plantations. Additional weeding and tilling of the land in turn leads to increased soil erosion in these areas. Last but not least, China is currently the only manufacturer of bamboo fabric, making it impossible to look for an alternative, local source for this textile. While bamboo can be easily grown in many areas, there are no factories in North America that have the machines to chemically manufacture bamboo fibres. With all these concerns, there are still so many benefits to consider. Bamboo fabric is completely biodegradable and grown without pesticides. The plants absorb carbon dioxide at a five times the rate of trees, and the extensive root systems prevent soil erosion while retaining water in the watershed. The potential for this fabric is undeniable, though the jury is still out on the current modes of manufacturing. Let’s keep this conversation going in the fashion community with our favorite eco retailers and bamboo clothing producers. The ultimate solution to the bamboo conundrum is within our reach. Best said in the words of famous Chinese philosopher Lao-Tzu… People in their handlings of affairs often fail when they are about to succeed. If one remains as careful at the end as he was at the beginning, there will be no failure. We’d love to have an open discussion on In The Loop about bamboo fabric. Please share any insights you may have on the bamboo fabric industry in the comments section below.

Having trouble keeping up with our increasingly organic, eco-friendly world? Let me be your guide! From all-natural makeup to the best in eco-conscious jeans, I will test and review the products and treatments that are best for you and the planet. What do you think about when you see the word “bamboo”? Until recently, whenever I came across the plant, perhaps tossed in a salad as shoots or sold in lucky sets of three in Chinatown, I’d picture giant pandas pigging out on their favorite snack. But as I’ve learned more and more about environmentally friendly alternatives to everything from flooring, serving ware, furniture, and even clothes, I’ve come to see that bamboo plays a bigger role than merely panda sustenance. Why bamboo? The short answer: As Americans become increasingly eco-conscious — or eco-curious for those just starting to look into the vast green options available today — one of the main issues that we look to eradicate is the uncontrolled use (um, exploitation) of the earth’s natural resources. Sure, most of these resources are renewable, that is, they naturally restock or renew themselves, but when our demand outpaces the rate at which the resource is able to be renewed, we run into serious trouble. Enter bamboo, thought to be the fastest-growing plant on the planet. This grass — fun fact: Bamboo is classified as a grass, not a tree — has attracted the attention of eco-aware contractors and furniture designers because it is considered to be one of our most sustainable resources, while our forests risk devastating deforestation. This grass is light-years away from the green tufts sprouting out of your front lawn. For starters, bamboo can be harvested in about four years — think how long it takes a tree to grow to full maturity — and, incredibly, does not require replanting because it continually creates new sprouts. And if that’s not enough, bamboo is so incredibly strong — certain varieties have been compared to steel — that it is used in the construction of homes and even bridges in some parts of the world. And bamboo is a natural superstar, growing to such heights—over 60 feet in some cases — without the aid of toxic pesticides and fertilizers. Sounds pretty good, doesn’t it? Good enough to trade in your hardwood floors for bamboo’s blond boards or to look for dining tables made out of the king of all grasses. But what does bamboo, a resilient, hyper-strong plant, have to do with some of the softest, most luxurious clothing you’ll ever put on your body?
Jam343/Flickr.comBamboo can grow up to 60 feet tall - without pesticides________________________________________A lot. Recent manufacturing technology has developed a method of turning bamboo pulp into fiber, which can then be transformed into silky-soft fabric. Designers both big and small are turning bamboo into sumptuous T-shirts, skirts, pants, socks, baby clothes, and even sheets and towels. For the last year my bed has been swathed in the extra-soft goodness of bamboo sheets —like Egyptian cotton on steroids — and sleeping has yet to be the same (every night has been a cozier, cuddlier, all-around improved slumbering experience). In support of the mainstreaming of eco-conscious products I picked up my 230-count bamboo sheet set at Bed Bath & Beyond for an affordable $80 (queen-size). To make bamboo clothing and home goods even more desirable, bamboo fabric has been found to be thermal regulating — keeps you cool in the summer and warm in the winter; moisture absorbing — bamboo fabric will absorb sweat quickly; breathable — clothing made out of bamboo is especially porous; and best of all, antibacterial — bamboo contains a naturally occurring antimicrobial agent called kun that prevents the growth of bacteria. My top picks for the best of bamboo clothing design and home goods: Bamboosa: This bamboo emporium is a one-stop shop for casual clothing for women, men and baby. The BamboosaBaby gift set makes an eco-original shower gift and Bamboosa’s socks would make an excellent stocking stuffer for the stinky-footed in your family. Bamboosa goes all the way with eco-friendly dyes and 100 percent recycled paper packaging as well as sweat-shop-free, U.S.-based manufacturing. Linda Loudermilk: If eco-conscious clothing still conjures up images of bulky hemp pants in earthy, unflattering colors, it’s time to go luxury, “luxury eco.” Loudermilk is a high-end designer whose cutting-edge designs embody her “luxury eco” ethic with their colors and cut as well as their fabric origins. In addition to bamboo, the dynamic pieces are made of sasawashi, sea cell and other exotic sustainable plants. Bamboo sheets: There are many options for outfitting your bed in bamboo. Gaiam sells sheet sets in a cotton-bamboo blend; VivaTerra’s sheets are made of 100 percent bamboo fiber; and Target has even gotten into the game with a 60 percent cotton, 40 percent bamboo blend.Closing note: Bamboo fiber is undeniably soft, but it’s also undeniably imperfect. Eco-investigators are discovering that while the bamboo plant is environmentally friendly, the manufacturing process that turns bamboo into fabric may not be equally earth conscious. The minds behind the Organic Clothing Blog, a site that covers eco-fashion, believe that “the manufacturing of bamboo into fabric raises environmental and health concerns because of the strong chemical solvents used to cook the bamboo plant into a viscose solution that is then reconstructed into cellulose fiber for weaving into yarn for fabric.” To play it safe, before you invest in your very own pair of bamboo pants or a set of bamboo sheets, take a moment to inquire into the company’s manufacturing methods.
Suddenly Everything is Made Of Bamboo

People who think of bamboo as merely the stuff of kitschy island souvenirs or those brittle, cheap window shades are in for a surprise. Bamboo turns out to be the newest, most popular source of material for everything from T-shirts to table tops.Bamboo became an alternative to hardwood for furniture and flooring in the mid-1990s. Since then it has worked its way into every room in the American household, and now even the clothes closet. Because it is fast-growing and durable, and considered by some to be cultivated in a more eco-friendly way than other raw materials, bamboo is being used to make everything from baby bassinets to sandals to caskets.Target, the trend-setting retail chain, sells the kind of bamboo products you might expect, including serving trays and folding chairs. But bamboo also is woven into a new line of colorful bedding and pillows at Target. A set of queen-size purple bamboo sheets costs $49.99.Smaller retailers are also beginning to offer bamboo fabrics. At IIKH, an eco-friendly boutique in Manhattan, the stock of bamboo kitchen products and bamboo furniture will soon be joined by bamboo T-shirts. The Wave Hound Surf Shop in Pipersville, Pa., offers colorful printed bamboo T-shirts as well as bamboo scarves and tank tops.“Bamboo is just going to be huge,” said Rich Delano, president of Bamboo Textile in Brea, Calif., the company that imports the raw fiber for Target’s bamboo bedding. “Everyone freaked out about hemp,” he said, but the fiber never lived up to its all-purpose promise. “There needed to be a fiber that could go toe to toe with cotton or rayon.”Delano said that since he first started to sell bamboo T-shirts in 2003, he has seen his business triple. He now offers bamboo sweaters, socks and shawls and is developing a line of bamboo jeans that is expected to reach the market in 2007.“It’s known as the plant of a thousand uses,” said Gib Cooper, director of the Bamboo of the Americas organization, and the owner of Tradewinds Bamboo Nursery in Oregon. “Asia has developed its culture around bamboo for thousands of years. Our culture was lacking bamboo because it was not native. Now it’s an acceptable product in any home improvement store.”When Cooper began to offer bamboo flooring through his catalog in 1995, none of the major home improvement stores carried it. Now it is used to make tables, chairs, dressers, kitchen cabinets and window frames, and bamboo flooring can be found in stores like Home Depot and Lowes, he said.Bamboo is stronger than it looks, with a greater tensile strength than steel. That’s about the same hardness as the ash handle of an axe, according to Dave Flannagan, who is on the board of directors of the American Bamboo Society. As one of the fastest-growing woody plants, bamboo reaches a harvestable stage after only three years of growth, while harvesters have to wait about 20 years to cut a normal hardwood tree like northern white cedar. The plant is native to the high latitudes of Asia, all the way south through the continent and beyond to northern Australia. Because it has been widely transported, however, it’s now cultivated throughout the world. The majority of bamboo comes from China, although farmers in Mississippi, Georgia and Alabama grow it commercially. Some American dealers get their bamboo from farms they own and operate in Central and South America.Even so, at least for flooring, fences, furniture and the like, bamboo is still more expensive than conventional hardwoods like cherry or maple. In part that’s because it’s difficult to harvest. Bamboo grows like blades of grass from thickly matted roots, so that a 4-year-old stalk can be right next to an immature 2-year-old stalk. It is also expensive to ship from China, where many bamboo products are mass-produced. “Right away it makes it more expensive than people want it to be,” Flannagan said. However, using bamboo in fabrics is turning out to be just as affordable as using conventional fabrics, according to textile producers. The raw fiber of the bamboo stalk is broken down and spun into a yarn.Bamboo makes a more earth-friendly textile than cotton, which often requires the use of heavy pesticides and a higher ratio of plants to completed fabric, Delano said. Some green magazines like the “Green Guide”, which scopes out new earth-friendly products, criticize Target’s sheets for being only a 60/40 blend of 60 percent bamboo and 40 percent conventional cotton. But other environmentalists believe that the introduction of the eco-friendly material into a national chain store marks a breakthrough.Mara Kloiber, the owner of IIKH, believes that as bamboo becomes more popular and bamboo clothes take off, it will continue to get cheaper. She notes that organic cotton bedding used to be a luxury-priced item, “but now you can get organic cotton high quality sheets and they will be cheaper than some of the name brands.”“And with bamboo,” she said, “well, it’s such an incredibly flexible material.”

Organic Bamboo-fiber Bed Sheets

100% bamboo-fiber bed sheets are a great way to treat your guests like royalty, and be kind to the environment. Because fertilizers, pesticides, and high quantities of water aren't needed to grow quality bamboo, these are a great answer your bedding challenges. Bamboo sheets are silky soft, drape beautifully, and breathe comfortably. They are better, in my experience, than high quality Egyptian-cotton bed sheets. And the price is even better! While attending a bed and breakfast conference recently, I visited Inn Style in the vendor section. Initially I only wanted to find out whether they were carrying any organic cotton sheets and towels. But I so quickly got side-tracked with other wonderful discoveries that I forgot to pursue my original question. What was so exciting as to get me off track? Bamboo sheets. 100% bamboo fiber sheets, not a bamboo/cotton blend. I know that gives you the impression that the sheets are "stiff as a board", but that impression couldn't be further from the truth. These sheets have all the benefits of silk, satin, or 800 thread-count Egyptian cotton bed sheets, without the disadvantages of any of them. These sheets, be they knit or woven, are soft, supple, and silky to the touch. Silk and bamboo sheets are more easily damaged by bleaching than other natural fiber or blend sheets, so using baking soda and white vinegar in your wash and rinse cycles, respectively, are a better way of keeping sheets clean and bright. Bamboo sheets also fair better with a cold-water wash, rather than a warm- or hot-water wash. Think of the money you save with these laundry changes! Bamboo fiber sheets seem to be a great alternative to organic cotton because bamboo grows readily without fertilizers or pesticides, and it requires much less water than cotton. By buying natural-colored, undyed sheets, you have completed the cycle of natural bedding. And they feel so good you are taking care of your guests' natural sleep. I bought a pair of knit bamboo sheets from Inn Style to experiment with. These particular sheets came in four, softly-hued colors; I chose the natural color. I later found woven bamboo sheets at Sam's club, available in white. They are a much better quality than any discount bed sheet I've ever purchased or experienced. The fabric in both sets of sheets is incredibly soft and quite drapeable. They breathe well, making them the perfect insulator for a good night's sleep. Personally I have been preferring jersey-knit sheets because I live in a cold climate and these sheets keep me the right temperature year-round. I was concerned that I was going to lose that temperature alance. Neither of the bamboo sheet sets is a problem, as far as keeping me the right temperature is concerned. I couldn't be happier. I've only had the sheets a short time so they each have been laundered only twice, but the laundry results are favorable. When I removed the knit sheets from the drier the first time, they'd been sitting there for a few hours. I was relieved to see how unwrinkled they were. The sheets were soft when we first opened the package and are lovely after two washings. I'll report back after we've had them longer. Organic bamboo sheets are a natural for the lodging industry. They are environmentally friendly in their growth patterns, and if you take care of them naturally, they also are good for your guests with allergies and chemical sensitivities. You can buy them at several places, but Inn Style and Sam's are where I started.

New Bamboo Fabric Hits Market

News From: http://www.associatedcontent.com
Thousands of species of bamboo are in the world today. Bamboo is used for many things from flooring material to food for panda bears. Now bamboo is making it's way into the textile market.
A new fabric will soon be available for our use. This fabric is made from the Moso bamboo. The Moso bamboo can reach a height of seventy five feet tall with a short two months of growing. It is a fast growing bamboo that is great to make into fabrics.
Bamboo fabric will be competition for cotton and linen fabrics. It is a natural fiber that is made of bamboo and comfortable to wear. It is processed a lot like rayon fabric. Rayon is a fabric that is made from wood pulp. When rayon is made they take wood pulp and make it into long thin silky strands of thread and then it is woven into a fabric that can be used for many purposes including clothes for us to wear. Bamboo is made in this same manner.
Fabric made of bamboo is a spectacular type of fabric. It is a highly absorbent fabric that is also be antibacterial fabric. So it may be a good fabric for use in hospitals and places that require sanitary conditions.
Some boutiques and specialty stores and even national chains are already offering bamboo based clothing for us to purchase I think this is exciting news since I am eager to try it.
It is thrilling to think that this bamboo fabric is a great renewable plant that thrives without added chemicals. It is very easy to grow and can help the economy in some countries.
China is the biggest producer of bamboo for the purpose of textile manufacturing. China starting growing bamboo for fabrics in 2004 by the year 2006 the industry has grown tenfold. If this trend continues then bamboo fabric will someday be competition for cotton.
Bamboo is a fast growing plant that can be grow easily and made into fabrics that are useful and comfortable. Growing bamboo can help failing economies. Bamboo fabric is an absorbent fabric that can be antibacterial. More people are concerned with germs these days. People are using hand sanitizers and doing all they can to avoid germs.

How green is bamboo fabric?

Image: istockphoto.com/Steve Dibblee (Oct 2, 2007) Found in your favourite Chinese dishes and on the floors of many modern homes, bamboo has made its way into another key aspect of our lives -- clothing. But just how green is this verstaile new fabric with is variety of benefits? Related stories:• Behind the Seams with Deborah Lindquist • Relax with an eco-friendly prom dress • Cover-ups for spring showers • Easter bonnets get an eco-stylish makeover • Is your T-shirt toxic?
ProsThe beauty and benefits of bamboo fibre go far beyond the surface. More affordable than silk, bamboo has a similar drape (how softly it floats on your body) and is slightly stronger, along with having a natural sheen. Unlike silk, bamboo can easily be tossed into a washer and dryer, making it much simpler to take care of. Also wrinkle-resistant, bamboo can be ironed at a low temperature if ever needed and has very little shrinkage.
Due to the fabric’s natural structure, bamboo is very breathable, helping the wearer to stay cool in the summer and warmer in the winter, making it perfect for layers and exercise wear. Thanks to a natural agent in the plant itself, bamboo is also highly anti-bacterial, absorbing three to four times more water than cotton fabric without sticking to your skin.
These are all spectacular benefits and it is hard to believe that there are downsides to this advanced textile … but there is.
ConsWhile the bamboo plant has many uses and has quickly become a key source of income for many rural citizens of China, the issues behind the production of bamboo fabric have begun to surface. During a recent investigative mission, the Organic Clothing blog from Lotus Organics uncovered detailed information about how dangerous chemicals are used to transform the plant into liquid and then into fibres to be spun into fabric. These chemicals can cause a plethora of health problems and neural disorders for the manufacturing workers. With no Fair Trade certifications or sustainable production credentials, a developing nation like China rarely (if at all) uses systems to help control the production and disposal of those chemicals.
Seeing bamboo as a “greener” substitute for silk, many designers are clamoring to use it in their collection, including couture and everyday brands.
The Chinese have hundreds of generations of experience in growing bamboo – so far, a number of Americans have begun to try grow their own in their backyard, quickly finding that this tall grass can easily overtake all of their land.
Final thoughtTo buy or not to buy – that is the question. If you are planning on purchasing bamboo goods, the key is to look for some kind, ANY kind, of certification (though there is yet to be any kind of international standard for bamboo). The natural benefits available within the bamboo plant are wide, but a more sustainable manufacturing process is still needed to make this fabric truly green; til then, your best (and more eco) alternative is still organic cotton.

Eco-Friendly Bamboo-Based Fabrics and Textiles

Rising interest in “sustainable” fabrics is fostering a bamboo boom, in which bamboo-based fabrics are hitting the market as a leading eco-friendly textile. Chemists in Colorado now are reporting solutions to two major problems with bamboo fabrics that may speed adoption of this amazing plant — which grows like Jack’s beanstalk without special care — in garments and other consumer products. Reporting at the 235th national meeting of the American Chemical Society, Subhash Appidi and Ajoy Sarkar, Ph.D., from Colorado State University have discovered a way of making bamboo fabric that is resistant to the sun’s damaging ultraviolet (UV) radiation and has anti-bacterial properties.Widely available in Japan, China, India and other countries, bamboo fabric is soft, durable and elastic. It hangs as gracefully as silk, and has an attractive, lustrous sheen. A leading option in the so-called “ethically produced” clothing market, bamboo is one of the world’s fastest growing plants, reaching maturity in about 3-4 years, compared to 25 to 70 years for commercial tree species in the U.S.“Bamboo is environmentally friendly,” says Appidi. “Pesticides and other agents are necessary to grow most other natural fibers — there is nothing like that in bamboo production.”But despite bamboo’s promise as an environmentally friendly fiber, Appidi says untreated bamboo fabric has plenty of room for improvement. Raw bamboo fabric lets almost all damaging UV radiation pass through and reach the skin. And while many tout bamboo’s inherent anti-bacterial properties, Appidi found that untreated bamboo fabric did not live up to antimicrobial expectations.“All cellulose fibers allow more moisture to leak in and provide more food for bacteria to eat. That’s why bacteria grow more on natural fibers rather than synthetic fibers,” says Appidi. The resulting bacterial blooms can lead to unpleasant odors and unsanitary clothing. For Appidi, creating bacteria-free bamboo garments is a necessity. His goal is to create clothes for use in the medical environment that are nearly 100 percent antibacterial and UV-resistant. Appidi increased the UV-protecting abilities of fabric by coloring pieces of commercially-available bamboo cloth in a dye laced with UV absorbing chemicals. After finding the optimal concentration of absorbing chemicals, he tested UV protection levels. To improve on the intrinsic antibacterial properties of bamboo, Appidi treated pieces of commercially purchased bamboo fabric with Tinosan —“one of the better antibacterial agents on the market right now,” according to the researcher. His results showed a 75-80 percent bacterial reduction, a significant improvement over untreated bamboo fabric. There was also a profound increase in UV protection, he said. In terms of “ultraviolet protection factor” (UPF), any value of over 50 is deemed safe against UV rays. Appidi said his treated fabric almost reached 56.More research may get Appidi’s bamboo fabric in hospitals — and eventually store shelves. He is investigating other antibacterial agents that may help him attain a 99 percent bacterial reduction in bamboo fabric. Insight into the effect of multiple laundry cycles is also necessary, though preliminary findings suggest that the UV and microbial protection remain after washing.Eventually, Appidi would like to see bamboo fabric become as common in the United States as it is in Asian countries. “There are good prospects for bamboo fabrics in the future,” says Appidi. The American Chemical Society — the world’s largest scientific society — is a nonprofit organization chartered by the U.S. Congress and a global leader in providing access to chemistry-related research through its multiple databases, peer-reviewed journals and scientific conferences. Its main offices are in Washington, D.C., and Columbus, Ohio.Posted April 8th,2008

Bamboo You Can Wear

ASK A SPECIALIST: WHAT CAN YOU TELL ME ABOUT BAMBOO AS A CHOICE FOR FABRIC? Answer by: Karen Biers, Utah State University Extension Clothing and Textiles Specialist Did you ever think you would be wearing clothes made from the bamboo plant? It is possible, as bamboo is now available in apparel and bedding items. Because of the round structure of its fibers, bamboo fabrics are soft, smooth and comfortable. Consider this information. * Bamboo fabrics have a natural sheen, and they look and feel like silk but can be machine washed on the gentle cycle and dried in a dryer or hung to dry. * Bamboo fabric is highly water absorbent, which gives the fabric an excellent wicking ability. Wicking pulls moisture away from the skin so it can evaporate and not leave the skin feeling damp. Bamboo fiber is filled with various micro-gaps, making it cool in hot weather and warm in cold weather. This property makes bamboo an ideal fabric for socks. Bamboo clothing is also anti-static. * Bamboo possesses a property referred to as bamboo kun, which gives it a naturally occurring anti-microbial property. Bamboo kun stops odor-producing bacteria from growing in the fabric and allows clothing to remain fresher smelling. Since this is a naturally occurring property, tests have found that the fabric retains its anti-fungal and anti-bacterial nature, even after several launderings. Fifty individuals suffering from athlete’s foot were asked to wear socks made from the anti-bacterial bamboo. All individuals reported that the burning and itching associated with the condition disappeared within one to two days after the test began. Within two to six days, the blistering and sores characteristic of the condition disappeared and the skin returned to normal. * There are two ways to process the bamboo plant to make fabric. The mechanical method involves crushing the woody parts of the plant and using natural enzymes to break it into a mushy mass so fibers can be mechanically combed out and made into yarn. Bamboo fabric made this way is sometimes referred to as bamboo linen. Bamboo can also be processed using a chemical method. This is similar to the method used to produce rayon. Chemically processed bamboo is sometimes called bamboo rayon. * Bamboo soft goods are available in 100 percent bamboo fabric as well as in blends with cotton, nylon and Lycra ®. Bamboo knitting yarn is also available. *****Direct column topics to Julene Reese, Utah State University Extension writer, Logan, Utah, 84322-4900, 435-760-9302; julener@ext.usu.edu

Bamboo maternity wear becoming increasingly popular

Maternity clothes made from bamboo have received a major boost in popularity, thanks to its anti-perspiration qualities and cooling, soothing feel.
Pregnant women are really falling for this new fashion trend, according to Susanne Atkins-Krueger of clothing line Vertbaudet, with current products including vest tops, t-shirts, trousers and dresses.
"It wasn't really a surprise that the bamboo clothes have proved to be among the most popular of our clothes for pregnant women," said Ms Atkins-Frueger.

"The feedback we have received has been overwhelmingly positive and we know that there has been a big word-of-mouth effect. Many customers are visiting our site specifically to find the bamboo maternity wear - bamboo is the big hit this summer!"
Bamboo is highly absorbent, which bodes well for pregnant women who suffer from temperature fluctuations from time-to-time.
With a record-hot summer predicted for 2007, Ms Atkin-Frueger said she was confident that sales figures for bamboo maternity wear would be higher than ever.
